We have a full schedule of events on the calendar for today: The Lady Cougar Volleyball team heads to Riverton for a Varsity ONLY match starting at 6 p.m. The ICHS Golf team will hit the links in Greenview today at 4 p.m. The ICHS/Greenview Cross Country team will be running at Furrow Farm in the El Paso Gridley Invitational starting at 4:15 p.m. The ICMS/Greenview Lady Cougar Basketball team plays host to the South Fulton Lady Rebels. Please note: This game is being played in Mason City. The IC Golf team heads to Petersburg for the PORTA Invite at 9 a.m. The ICHS Lady Cougar Volleyball team travels to Springfield Calvary for the Calvary Tournament. The ICHS Cross Country team will be running in the Springfield High Invite. Happy Friday, Cougar Fans! Athlete Spotlights are one of the things we will be doing throughout this school year. You may have seen our first two covering Seniors Kolbi Johnson & Bryce Rose in the Banner Times. We will be sending those Spotlights to the paper as well as posting them on our website. Today...our 8th grade Cross Country runners race for their final time as middle schoolers on the IC course. Alaina Karker, Kaitlyn Jones, Olivia Golden & Connor Korte are our 8th graders. We would love to see as many fans as possible to cheer them on...as well as all of our runners. The Illini Central Lady Cougars volleyball team heads down Route 29 this evening for a matchup with the Greenview Bulldogs in a Tomahawk Conference action. Our ICHS Golf team heads to the Rail Golf Course this afternoon for a matchup with some Sangamo opponents. Finally, our ICMS Cross Country team is heading to Canton today for a race. Yesterday we shared a post about the Athens community honoring a beloved coach... Tomorrow, it is OUR turn right here in Mason City. The first annual Jimmy Newell Memorial 5K Race will be held beginning at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7 and it's not too late to get signed up. Even if you are unable to run, it would be great to see plenty of people cheering on the runners.... One of the best traits that Jimmy had was his unwavering and unmatched support of ALL runners. The race begins and ends at the Park Pavillion with the route being run on Jefferson and Division Streets. Looking forward to a great morning to honor the memory of Jimmy and his love of this event. #WeAreIC #BeJimmy

Yesterday...the Illini Central Middle School Cross Country team had a meet in Athens. It was a great day for all of the runners...not just ours. The greatness of the meet had nothing to do with anyone’s PRs or who came in 1st. Athen’s Cross Country coach Mrs. Rhoades used the meet to honor Coach Jimmy Newell. Jimmy was such an influence on so many coaches & runners...not just those here at Illini Central. He shared his love of running with anyone who would listen. Yesterday...the great people from Athens showed the same love for our beloved coach. Thank you, Coach Rhoades & the Athens Warriors. Every single one of us was blessed to have Jimmy influence our lives. We love & miss you, Jimmy. #WeAreIC #BeJimmy

The middle school Cross Country teams will be traveling to Athens for their meet. Start time is scheduled for 4:30. The ICHS Golf team heads to Coyote Creek for their meet that is being hosted by Illini Bluffs. Start time is scheduled for 4:00. The Lady Cougar Volleyball team will be hosting the Lady Panthers from North Mac in a Sangamo Conference meet this evening starting at 6:00. Tonight in Lewistown...the Illini Central/Greenview Middle School Girls' basketball teams played their hearts out. The 7th grade fell to the Lady Indians, but competed from the opening tip until the final buzzer. The 8th graders ran out to a 27 point lead & finished the game off, 46-28. The 8th grade team was led by Addie Wilcoxon's 16 points & Megan Hughes chipped in 14. #WeAreIC #BeJimmy

Illini Central/Greenview fans...there is only one event on the calendar for today. The middle school Lady Cougars get their basketball season underway with a trip to Lewistown to take on the Lady Indians. Wishing the girls well as their season begins tonight. #WeAreIC #BeJimmy

It was a busy night on the cross country course last night in Mason City. Our ICMS Girls team placed second in their meet with four other schools. Alaina Karker finished in fourth place overall and Luci Martinez was right behind her in 5th. In the next race, Ephraim Newton finished in 10th place overall to lead the ICMS Boys Cross Country team. Our lone participant in the High School race was Zachary Golden and he finished in 11th place with a time of 21:22. Great job by all of our cross country runners on Tuesday night! #WeAreIC #BeJimmy

It has been a busy week for our athletic teams here at Illini Central, but there is just one game on the schedule for today. The ICMS Baseball team will host the Delavan Panthers at 4:30 this afternoon here in Mason City. We will also be recognizing our 8th grade athletes before the game. It's another big day for our Cougar athletes. The ICHS Golf team is at Hickory Point Golf Club today for the Sangamo Conference Meet. The ICMS Boys Golf team is competing at Sectionals this morning at the Jacksonville Links Golf Course. The ICMS Cross Country team will be competing at the Rushville Invite this afternoon at Schuy-Rush Park. Our Lady Cougars volleyball team will be at home in Mason City tonight hosting the Lady Raiders from Midwest Central for a Tomahawk Conference matchup.
