These are guidelines for the general public onlly. As a result, there are no changes to the number of days that a person with COVID or a close contact to a positive COVID individual will be excluded from school.

On January 14, 2022, students in grades 8, 10, and 12 will be asked to participate in a voluntary survey called the Illinois Youth Survey, whose purpose is to better understand Illinois youth risk and protective behaviors as they relate to students and their success. Participation will involve completing a survey (with no names or identification numbers) that will be confidentially administered by a classroom teacher, counselor, or community member who has received training on administering this survey. Your child's participation will last no more than one class period (40-45 minutes). Risks related to participating are minimal, but some questions ask about sensitive topics and personal behavior that might make some students feel uncomfortable. The benefits related to this research include improving your community's ability to develop programs and strategies to prevent youth problem behaviors and enhance youth development. The alternative to participating in the survey is an alternate activity such as quiet reading in the classroom. If you do not want your child to participate, please complete the opt-out form and return it to the middle and high school office. The opt out form can be found here: https://5il.co/13b4o or in print in the office.

Illini Central High School has seen an increase in the number of positive COVID cases, and as a result, an increase in the number of students quarantined. Teachers and administration worry about the fairness that this may cause in regard to semester exams. Additionally, the staff is aware that it has been almost two years since students have taken a semester exam, and it has created a tremendous amount of pressure on students during an already difficult school year thanks to COVID. We want to make sure our students have an opportunity to be successful and experience semester exams without the pressure of the exams counting 20% of the semester grade. Illini Central High School is changing how semester grades will be calculated. All students are required to take the exam (unless prior exemption was approved). The grade a student earns on the exam can only IMPROVE the semester grade. Students who are not in attendance (due to illness or quarantine) on the scheduled exam days will take exams on January 4, 2022. Students who do not attempt the exam will earn a “0” on the exam, and it will be calculated as 20% of their semester grade. Students must stay through the entire exam period. There is no open campus policy. This change in exams does not apply to seniors enrolled in Transitional Math. ICC dictates that the semester exam is not optional and it must count as 20% of the semester grade. We hope this helps ease some of the stress our students are feeling as we close out the first semester. We wish our students the best of luck on exams tomorrow. As a reminder, we will dismiss at 2:00 tomorrow and Friday.

Don't forget that tutoring is available Monday through Thursday for both middle and high school students until 4:00pm each day for the rest of the semester. It's a great way to get some extra support before the end of the semester!

Graduates from Illini Central may apply to help fund their college or technical school tuition by utilizing the Illini Central Student Loan Fund. The money made available to graduates from Illini Central High School through the Student Loan Fund is a loan. As such, the committee expects the applicant to make repayment of the money borrowed as soon after leaving school as is feasible. The prompt repayment of this loan will assure future students of Illini Central the same privilege to take advantage of this fund. There is a limit of $500.00 per semester with the total amount granted not to exceed $3000.00. The Student Loan Fund committee will be meeting to approve student loans for the Spring 2022 semester. Students that are interested in acquiring a loan need to submit an application by January 3, 2022. Applications may be picked up in the high school office or on the school website at www.illinicentral.org under “For Students” on the main page or the high school page. Students must also submit a copy of their class schedule as proof of enrollment in college course. Please contact Jennifer Durbin at Illini Central High School at (217) 482-5180 or jdurbin@illinicentral.org with questions.
