Illini Central High School students will experience a crash reenactment at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, at the high school. ThinkFirst, an injury prevention
program offered by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, will assist in planning and presenting the event.
The reenactment will focus on what can happen when young drivers drink and drive or ride with distracted or impaired drivers. On the day of the event, sights and sounds associated with an emergency response are to be expected. At the event, emergency personnel normally summoned after a car crash will simulate their tasks. Those involved in planning and implementing the event include the Mason County Coroner, Hurley Funeral Home, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police and Fire Departments, Mason County Ambulance, Thurber Towing, Audio Techni Services in Springfield, Arch Air in Litchfield, Illini Central High School faculty, administration, students, Illinois Chiefs of Police and SIU School of Medicine’s ThinkFirst program.
Guest speakers for the event are Mason County Coroner Michael Hurley, Michelle Watson, bereaved mother and Danny Hicks, ThinkFirst victim speaker.
“The purpose of the crash reenactment program is to show the real-life consequences of risk-taking behaviors,” says Megan Eairheart, Director of ThinkFirst. “This event illustrates what can happen when a bad decision is made. We want students to be informed and make intelligent decisions, particularly
behind the wheel of a car.”
Each year 1.7 million traumatic brain injuries and 12,000 to 20,000 new spinal cord injuries occur in the United States; one-third happen to people between the ages of 15 and 24. “The tragedy is most of these injuries are preventable,” says Eairheart.
The SIU School of Medicine ThinkFirst program is a chapter of the ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation and presents events as a public service at no cost to schools. An Illinois Department of Transportation grant supports the program. Those interested in learning more are invited to contact Eairheart at SIU School of Medicine, P.O. Box 19679, Springfield, IL 62794-9604, 217-545-9112 or e-mail thinkfirst@siumed.edu.

LTEC STUDENTS AND FAMILIES: On Monday evening a threat of school violence was found written on an Lincoln Community High School restroom wall. The LCHS Behavioral Threat Assessment Team has been investigating the incident. At this time, they do not believe this is a credible threat; however, any and all threats are taken seriously. The Lincoln Police Department has been notified and will be providing more of a police presence. LCHS will continue to investigate this issue. Families wishing to keep their students home are to inform the school of their absence, absences will be considered excused.
There is no threat to Illini Central High School. At any time, anyone may report a potential threat or concern using the Say Something report on the Illini Central website under "Quick Links."

At ICHS, we require all of our students to participate in mock interviews prior to graduation. In years past, we have conducted these interviews in the students' senior year; however, recent graduates wished we would have done it earlier in their high school career. We are listening to their feedback and we are working on moving this opportunity to sophomore year, but we want to make sure that all of our juniors and seniors also get this experience.
To make this happen, we need your help! If you are interested in particpating in interviews, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/UZ7syvd3tLvs4LBM7
We will be in touch with more details once we have our interviewers. Thanks in advance!

The school year is rapidly approaching, and we're looking forward to inviting you and your family to our campus in the coming days before school resumes on August 18th, 2022!
Sunday, August 14th, 2022, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm: Kindergarten families are welcome to attend our Kindergarten Play Date, sponsored by the ICGS PTO! This event is to help students (and families) meet one another and familiarize themselves with the "big kid" playground. The PTO will also have popsicles! Please park in the west parking lot behind the school. Contact icgspto@illinicentral.org with any questions.
Wednesday, August 17th, 2022 from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm: All ICGS families are welcome to attend the Illini Central Grade School Meet the Teacher Night. Homeroom teachers, Specials teachers, and other staff members will be in their classrooms, ready to meet students and parents alike. Feel free to bring your child's school supplies to school that evening in order to save them a heavier load on their first day on Wednesday.
This same evening we'll have the PTO with us to give you more information on their organization and encourage you to sign up. Families will also be able to sign up at this event for Parent Teacher Conference time slots for later in the Fall. If you have students in other buildings, please note the Pre-Kindergarten Meet the Teacher time is 5:00 pm-7:00 pm this evening and the MS/HS event runs from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
