IC Extends Remote Learning Through 1/15/21

Wednesday, November 18, 2020

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

Last night, the Illini Central CUSD189 Board of Education voted to extend remote learning for all students.  While it is our goal to continue with in-person learning for students, the  rising number of positive cases of COVID-19, the increasing instances of students and staff who are required to quarantine, and the expected continued increase of risk possible exposure due to the holiday season require the district to adopt a more cautious approach. As a result, Illini Central CUSD189 will enact the following modifications to its reopening plan:

  1. Illini Central Grade, Middle, and High Schools will remain in remote learning through Friday, January 15, 2021.  Students will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

  2. Illini Central Pre-K program will begin full remote learning beginning Monday, November 30, 2020 through Friday, January 15, 2021.  Students will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. The Pre-K program will continue with in-person learning through Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

  3. Lincolnland Technical Education Center will be in remote learning beginning November 30, 2020.  If that facility reopens prior to January 19, 2021, LTEC students will be allowed to attend.

  4. Those students who receive special education services and are designated to attend school will continue to do so.  These in-person services will continue based on the following:

    1. Availability of teachers to provide services;

    2. Availability of students;

    3. Evaluation of the number of positive cases within the community;

    4. Any order from the governor’s office or ISBE that prevents services

  5. Food services will continue with its current delivery schedule.  If a family would like to be added to the delivery schedule, please go to the IC website to access the sign up form or call the school at 217-482-5180.

  6. Students who are enrolled in Illini Central Schools, but attend schools outside our district will follow the calendar and plans for their serving schools.

It is important that the school and the home continue to work together to encourage students to engage in remote learning.  Please be sure that your child is logging on daily and in contact with teachers. Remote learning presents a number of challenges. However, students can learn and grow through this format.  It will require a different form of work and dedication, but I am confident that we can work together to provide meaningful learning experiences.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience. Please feel free to communicate your questions and concerns with any district administrator as well as with your child’s teachers.
