MASON CITY — Dakota Schmeiderer pitched and batted Mason City Illini Central to its first softball victory in eight seasons as the Cougars beat Peoria Manual 10-0 Thursday in five innings.
Illini Central had not won a game since 2006, but the number of games it lost consecutively is not known.
Schmeiderer allowed four hits, walked three and struck out three, and she had two hits, drove in three runs and scored a run.
Lorena Leinweber went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run, and Jacqueline Wilhelm also went 2-for-2. She drove in two runs and scored two.

April 23 and 24 are the scheduled dates from the Illinois State Board of Education for juniors to complete the Prairie State Achievement Exam. All students of junior standing in the IlliniCentralSchool District are to take these exams on the scheduled dates. If a student is ill and is unable to take this test, makeup dates will be scheduled in May.
