I am privileged to have your child in my classroom every third day to participate in music and/ or art. It is a time during the day when the activity is a little more laid back. However, I do have rules and procedures for my class which you can read below.
Beginning this school year, my theme is "Reach for the Stars." Every grade will be learning a little about Vincent Van Gogh and his famous painting "Starry Night." Then we are all creating a night scene with stars. Some of our songs will be encouraging our students to do their best in and out of school.
During music time in the first semester, the younger students will be learning the difference between fast and slow tempo, high and low pitches, and steady or not steady beats. The older students will be learning more about rhythm and how to follow along in the music. We will also be preparing for our Christmas Program which will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 6:00 P.M. The pictures on the left are from the 2016 Christmas Program.
During the second semester, I will build on what they have already learned by singing many different styles of music. They will also learn about some famous classical pieces through singing and movement.
During art time, some of our goals are manipulating a variety of materials, demonstrating eye/hand coordination when using materials, recognizing and using various types of lines, shapes, and colors in their own art work, creating a mood or emotion in their art, and studying the art of famous artists. The younger students will be concentrating on the basics of art- lines, shapes, and colors. The older students will be concentrating on starting with a basic assignment and making it their own creation. Their artwork is proudly displayed around the school.
The pictures toward the bottom are from the Spring musical that volunteer 3rd-5th grade students presented at the Arlee Theater last April.
If you need to contact me, I usually arrive at school by 7:35 and stay after school until 4:00.
